Veteran Antitrust Litigator Chong S. Park Joins Ropes & Gray in Washington, D.C.

Global law firm Ropes & Gray today announced the arrival of veteran competition attorney Chong S. Park as a partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C. antitrust practice.

Mr. Park brings to Ropes & Gray nearly 25 years of experience as an antitrust litigator and joins Ropes & Gray from Steptoe & Johnson. He also served previously as a senior attorney at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, Bureau of Competition, Anticompetitive Practices Division.

Mr. Park has built a robust practice handling high-stakes matters, including antitrust lawsuits, government investigations and enforcement actions. He has extensive experience handling matters involving the intersection of antitrust and intellectual property, having litigated numerous cases around issues of standards abuse and the wrongful procurement and enforcement of patents. Mr. Park also has represented life science and pharmaceutical clients in connection with antitrust lawsuits and government investigations. In addition, he has litigated trade secret, contract, and labor and employment matters.

During five years with the FTC, Mr. Park served as lead managing attorney and co-lead trial counsel in the landmark standard-setting investigation and litigation, In re Union Oil Company, in which the FTC successfully challenged Unocal’s enforcement of undisclosed standards-essential patents. Also while at the FTC, Mr. Park worked on matters in the high-tech, health care, pharmaceutical, and oil and gas industries, receiving the FTC’s Award for Superior Service.

At Ropes & Gray, Mr. Park will help the firm continue to build its thriving antitrust litigation and technology-oriented practices.

Mr. Park holds a J.D. from Stanford Law School, where he served as an associate editor for the Stanford Law Review. He received his B.A. from Yale College, magna cum laude, and he served as a law clerk to Hon. T.S. Ellis III, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Virginia.
