Ropes & Gray was one of just three law firms honored with Immigration Equality’s Safe Haven award on May 19 in New York. The Safe Haven award recognizes firms whose attorneys have excelled in representing clients placed with them by Immigration Equality.

Immigration Equality advocates for and represents LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants seeking safety , fair treatment and freedom, including asylum seekers, binational couples and families, detainees in immigration jail facilities, and undocumented LGBTQ people. The organization works with firms to represent clients in 39 states and the District of Columbia.

Since 2007, Ropes & Gray has been a steadfast supporter of Immigration Equality, taking more cases and devoting more attorney hours than any other firm in the organization’s pro bono network. This is the fourth time that Ropes & Gray has been recognized with the Safe Haven award. The firm accepted 20 new cases for the organization in 2015 alone and performed nearly 4,900 hours of pro bono work on behalf of Immigration Equality clients in 46 active matters.

The Ropes & Gray Immigration Equality team includes intellectual property litigation associate Matt Shapiro (New York).
