An article published by Compliance Reporter on June 7 examines remarks delivered by SEC Chair Mary Jo White at the Investment Company Institute’s annual general meeting in Washington in May. Though the Commission has taken significant regulatory action within asset management, “important work remains to be done,” stated Chair White. Disclosure effectiveness, ETFs, and portfolio pricing, are areas the SEC are reviewing. Avoid[ing] “boilerplate disclosure” is an aspect where Chair White places industry responsibility, outlined investment management partner George Raine (Boston), cautioning that the SEC could issue guidance on this. Privately placed, pre-IPO companies were another area causing valuation concerns, Mr. Raine continued, given that these aren’t traded publicly.
