Ropes & Gray Attorneys Host Events, Build Local Connections in Brazil and Argentina

As part of Ropes & Gray’s Latin America initiative, attorneys from the firm’s government enforcement and business & securities litigation practice groups hosted a series of events in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in May, and traveled to Argentina, to build connections and engage with industry leaders, GCs and other high-level professionals in Latin America. The discussions examined a range of topics, including:

  • cooperation agreements in the United States and other compliance-related issues;
  • Brazilian and U.S. anticorruption enforcement trends and best compliance practices;
  • compliance issues that are relevant to the oil and gas industry, including how to effectively manage costs;
  • the Lava Jato investigation from a U.S. perspective, as well as how to conduct an effective internal investigations and design an appropriate compliance program in the Lava Jato era. 

Ropes & Gray also hosted a Women’s Forum Luncheon in São Paulo with a discussion focused on the issues raised in Sheryl Sandberg’s best-selling book, “Lean-In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead,” and its application in the legal profession and corporate world.  

Ropes & Gray partnered with FTI Consulting, the Brazilian Institute of Petroleum and local firms, including Koury Lopes Advogados, Chediak Advogados, and Demarest Advogados, whose attorneys and representatives both participated in and helped organize the events.

The attorneys who attended events in Brazil included government enforcement partners Colleen Conry and Alex Rene, business & securities litigation partner Nick Berg, and government enforcement associate Martin De Luca.
