Ropes & Gray provided legal counsel to Equity International in the establishment of a joint venture between its portfolio company, GuardeAqui, and Kipit Self Storage.
GuardeAqui is the leading self-storage owner/operator in Brazil, providing temporary and long-term storage solutions to commercial and residential customers. Kipit Self Storage, owned by Pátria Investimentos Ltda, is primarily engaged in the leasing out of real estate properties. The deal, signed on Jan. 9, will combine one-third of Brazil's leasable self-storage area.
The Ropes & Gray team advising Equity International in the transaction was led by private investment funds partner Matthew Posthuma (Chicago) and included tax & benefits partner Jay Milkes (New York) and private equity transactions associate James Davis (Chicago).
