In a March 20 Law360 article, health care practice co-chair Deborah Gersh (Chicago) discusses expansion delays for Medicare bundled payment quality improvement initiatives for cardiac care and hip fractures under the Trump administration’s U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The expansion of these initiatives will be delayed from July 1 to October 1, and may eventually be postponed to January 2018.

Ms. Gersh notes that the postponement aligns with HHS Secretary Tom Price’s goal of not requiring doctors and hospitals to participate in untested mandatory payment programs, and providing sufficient time to make adjustments to such existing and not yet implemented programs.
