  • The Financial Times 2018 North America Innovative Lawyers awards ranked Ropes & Gray number two among the industry’s best law firms when it comes to advising clients on an array of complex and emerging legal issues, marking the seventh consecutive year the firm has been recognized by FT. The firm was also named a finalist for four awards, and was recognized in six categories, showcasing the firm’s expertise in IP litigation, private investment funds, health care and life sciences, and private equity, among other practices.
  • A Ropes & Gray litigation team secured the dismissal of an investor class action against Genocea Biosciences, Inc. and certain of the company’s current and former officers in a Massachusetts district court. The judge dismissed the case in its entirety, accepting Ropes & Gray’s arguments that the plaintiffs failed to demonstrate that Genocea’s disclosures related to the prospects for a vaccine in the company’s development pipeline were materially false or misleading. “Our securities litigation practice is known for having secured dozens of successful outcomes for life sciences and health care companies over many years. It’s gratifying to see Genocea succeed as well,” litigation & enforcement partner Randy Bodner told Law360.
  • CIVC Partners, a Chicago-based private equity firm, announced its investment in Magna Legal Services, a provider of litigation support services. Ropes & Gray advised CIVC Partners on the investment.
  • In another landmark year for sanctions developments, the U.S. government strengthened sanctions targeting Iran, Russia and Venezuela, in addition to sanctioning an agency of the Chinese government and completing the second-largest sanctions-related enforcement action on record.
