Marta Belcher Chairs Cryptocurrency Program at International Summit in Portugal

Ropes & Gray attorney Marta Belcher recently chaired the cryptocurrency program at the Horasis Global Meeting 2019 in Portugal. The summit gathered 800 delegates from 70 nations, including seven heads of state and dozens of legislators and ministers, to discuss the topic of globalization. The summit was organized by the former director of the World Economic Forum and hosted by the Prime Minister of Portugal in conjunction with the presidents of Armenia and Namibia as well as Princess Märtha Louise of Norway.
At Horasis, Ms. Belcher discussed her practice at Ropes & Gray focusing on cryptocurrencies and other blockchain technologies, including drafting the first-ever blockchain-transferable software license, for which she as recognized by the Financial Times Innovative Lawyer Awards; serving as outside general counsel for Protocol Labs, one of the largest cryptocurrency projects; defending one of the first patent lawsuits brought against a blockchain company; and representing blockchain industry trade associations in public policy matters.
Ms. Belcher’s travel to the summit was funded by Ropes & Gray’s Joan D. Fuller Development Grant, which is awarded by the firm’s Women’s Forum and named in recognition of the firm’s first woman partner.
