Asset management partner and buyout and growth equity funds team co-leader Deb Lussier was featured as a panelist on an Aug. 27 FundFire webcast titled “Where Will Private Funds Invest in 2020 and in a Post-COVID World?” As many in the private funds market prepare for COVID-19 and the downturn to stretch into 2021, managers, limited partners, consultants, and placement agents are scouting the market to identify promising investment themes to back, not only this fall, but also in a post-COVID recovery. Deb, together with Campbell Lutyens partner Sarah Sandstrom and Wilshire Private Markets MD Mark Perry, addressed the most promising areas for new commitments, strategies that limited partners are asking about, and new funds that managers are planning to launch. The panel also discussed strategies that may see more activity, including alternative credit, distressed debt, industrial real estate, and special situations.
Remarks delivered on the webinar were also included in an Aug. 28 FundFire article titled “'It's an Accelerator:' Pandemic Intensifies Top Alts Themes.” The coronavirus pandemic and economic downturn have boosted the investment thesis for key private fund segments much in the same way it has magnified remote working from an occasional activity into a major trend for office professionals, said Deb. “I haven’t seen anything that is just brand new,” she said. “I think it’s an accelerator more than anything else.”
