In Law360, global M&A chair Paul Scrivano (San Francisco) discussed how Amazon's $8.45 billion acquisition of MGM Studios foreshadows further consolidation in the media and entertainment sector.

Paul notes the streaming wars are on, and there's no reason to expect that dealmaking in the media and entertainment space will slow down anytime soon. He said the level of M&A activity is only increasing because the landscape continues to shift in ways that may not have been apparent even a year ago. Paul explained that Amazon-MGM is mostly a vertical deal, and historically, those mergers have been difficult for the federal government to effectively challenge.
