A June 7 article published by The Economist reviews China’s recently passed rules on Human Genetic Resources (HGR), passed on June 1 by China’s Ministry of Science and Technology (the “MOST”). The article featured insights from life sciences partner Katherine Wang (Shanghai) .

Despite concerns that certain new restrictions impose a heavy burden on multinational pharmaceutical firms, hamper data sharing and clinical trials, Katherine balances the piece by highlighting that “The updates do loosen restrictions in some areas.” Katherine outlines that “the simplification of review and approval procedures [are] … a positive development.”
