In the Wall Street Journal, Brenda Hanifin Addresses the Impact of President Biden’s Executive Order Curbing Investment into China

On August 9, President Biden issued a long-anticipated executive order, which represents the first step by the Biden administration to curb certain categories of U.S. investment into China.

In an article by the Wall Street Journal, international risk partner Brendan Hanifin noted that some firms might choose to restructure the legal relationship between their U.S. headquarters and their Chinese operations to avoid risk but doubts the proposal will prompt firms into selling off their Chinese investments altogether.

Though the scope of the order likely will broaden over time, “I think it would be quite unlikely for outbound regulations to get to the point where you have to divest or sell off,” said Brendan.
