Emily Oldshue and Samuel Brenner Honored in Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly “Excellence in the Law Awards

Capital markets and mergers & acquisitions partner Emily Oldshue and IP litigation counsel Samuel Brenner (both of Boston) were named to the Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly 2020 “Excellence in Law” list. The winners were honored at a virtual award ceremony on July 22.

Emily was recognized for Excellence in Pro Bono, which honors lawyers who give back to the community. Emily leads Ropes & Gray’s name change project, a collaboration with GLAD and the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition that provides transgender individuals and parents of transgender kids with free help in updating legal names, vital records and identity documents. The project has matched more than 1,100 clients with Ropes & Gray lawyers to date.

Samuel was honored for Excellence in the Law as an “Up & Coming Lawyer,” a category designed to recognize Massachusetts lawyers who have distinguished themselves among their peers. Samuel is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer who focuses on intellectual property and complex commercial litigation, and regularly practices before the federal district and appellate courts, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and the U.S. International Trade Commission. He maintains a robust pro bono practice, for which he received Ropes & Gray’s Pro Bono Innovation Award in 2019, which includes representing clients in immigration, veterans’ rights, and criminal cases before agencies and state and federal trial and appellate courts.
