Paul Scrivano Named a Law360 Technology MVP

Practices: Mergers & Acquisitions, Technology, Media & Telecommunications, Capital Markets, Private Equity, Banking, FinTech, Special Purpose Acquisition Companies, Corporate Governance & Compliance

Paul Scrivano, partner and global head of the mergers & acquisitions practice, was named a 2021 Technology MVP by Law360. The Law360 MVP award honors exceptional lawyers who secured “hard-earned successes in high-stakes litigation, complex global matters and record-breaking deals.”

Paul is leading the merger of Altimeter Growth Corp. with Grab Holdings Inc., Southeast Asia’s leading ride-hailing, food deliveries and mobile payments “super app.” This record-breaking deSPAC M&A transaction, valued at nearly $40 billion, is the largest-ever U.S. de-SPAC M&A transaction, and heralds the dawn of technology companies in Southeast Asia engaging in transformative M&A transactions in the U.S. The deal also sets up the GrabForGood Fund, which is designed to support initiatives addressing societal and economic problems in Southeast Asia.

In the past 12 months, Paul also advised McAfee Corp. in the sale of its enterprise software business to a consortium led by Symphony Technology Group for $4 billion, which involved navigating a number of foreign direct investment matters. The deal will lead to McAfee becoming an independent consumer cybersecurity company.

In the Law360 profile, Paul explains that clients hire Ropes & Gray to do complex, one-of-a-kind deals. He said, "Those types of transactions keep it interesting, and that's what keeps me very interested in this area of the law — the ability to find ways to get things done when they don't seem like they're possible."
