At a ceremony on Sept. 22, Ropes & Gray was honored with six LMG Life Sciences Awards for 2021.

For the second consecutive year Ropes & Gray was awarded “Licensing & Collaboration Firm of the Year.”

In addition, life sciences regulatory & compliance partner and practice chair Greg Levine (Washington, D.C.) was selected as “Regulatory Attorney of the Year: FDA Medical Device,” litigation & enforcement partner Brien O’Connor (Boston) was named “Government Investigations Attorney of the Year,” and life sciences licensing partner Hannah England (Freeman) (Boston) was recognized as “Licensing & Collaboration Attorney of the Year.”

The firm was also honored with “Impact Deal of the Year US” for guiding a collaboration between Neurocrine Biosciences and Takeda valued at $2 billion. Led by Hannah England (Freeman), the transaction allows Takeda to further develop and market potential therapies for psychiatric disorders.

Ropes & Gray also received the “Impact Case of the Year US Non-IP Litigation” Award for Ixchel Pharma, LLC v. Biogen Inc. in the California Supreme Court. Antitrust partner Mark Popofsky (Washington, D.C.) was the lead attorney for Biogen. The landmark California Supreme Court decision established the contours of California non-compete, antitrust, and tortious interference law following two successful motions to dismiss, ultimately affirmed by the U.S. Court of Appeal for the Ninth Circuit. In recognition of Mark’s role in this landmark case, among other matters, he was named 2020 LMG Life Sciences Antitrust Litigator of the Year.

Now in its ninth year, the LMG Life Sciences Awards honor top-ranking firms and individuals for outstanding life sciences legal work in practice areas including regulatory, intellectual property, financial and corporate, and litigation and enforcement.
