Miguel Alvarez joined Ropes & Gray’s corporate department in 2024 after graduating from Boston University School of Law.
During law school, Miguel completed a legal externship with a regional health center focused on offering equitable and affordable care. Miguel also served as secretary for the Latin American Law Student Association, note editor on the Boston University Journal of Science and Technology Law, and Lawyering Fellow for the First Year Writing Program. In addition, Miguel participated in the Legislative Policy and Drafting Clinic, conducting research for the Boston University Center for Antiracist Research.
Prior to law school, Miguel worked as a research analyst for the Massachusetts House of Representatives’ Joint Committee on Children, Families, and Persons with Disabilities.
As an undergraduate student at Suffolk University, where he graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in psychology and government and a concentration in American politics, Miguel completed internships for several political campaigns, local and federal government offices, and Spare Change News, a street newspaper based out of Cambridge.
Experience
- Advised Gilgamesh Pharmaceuticals in an agreement to sell its lead investigational candidate, bretisilocin, to AbbVie for up to $1.2 billion, inclusive of an upfront payment and development milestones. Bretisilocin is a potential best-in-class psychedelic compound for the treatment of patients with moderate to severe major depressive disorder.
- Represented Eli Lilly and Company in its acquisition of Scorpion Therapeutics, Inc., immediately following a spin-off of Scorpion’s non-core assets, for up to $2.5 billion.
- Represented LPL Financial, the nation’s largest independent broker-dealer network, in various strategic transactions with investment advisory and financial planning firms.
- Represented EMCOR Group in connection with its $865 million acquisition of Miller Electric Company, a leading electrical contractor serving high growth areas across the southeastern United States.
