Richard Gauthier joined Ropes & Gray in 2019 as an associate in the firm's corporate department in Boston and is a member of the private capital transactions practice group. Prior to joining the firm, Richard focused his practice on representing technology companies in mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and venture capital financing at a boutique law firm in Boston.
Richard received his JD from New England Law | Boston in 2017 and received his LL.M. in Intellectual Property and Information Privacy from Fordham Law in 2018, graduating cum laude. While at Fordham Law, Richard served on the Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment Law Journal and was a member of the Samuelson Glushko Intellectual Property and Information Privacy Clinic, where he received the Archibald R. Murray Public Service Award for his work advising clients on intellectual property law, GDPR issues and general corporate matters for local startups.

- Represented Charlesbank Capital Partners in its investment in Bridgepointe Technologies, a leading IT channel platform selling recurring technology services to enterprise customers.
- Advised Change Healthcare in its acquisition of PDX, a leader in providing patient-centric and innovative technologies for pharmacies and health system.
- Represented Summit Partners, Silversmith Capital Partners and LifeStance Health in connection with an investment by TPG Capital in LifeStance Health.
- Represented Gilead Sciences in its $1.74 billion staged acquisition of Pionyr Immunotherapeutics.
- Represented Charlesbank Capital Partners in its investment in Park Place Technologies, a leading global third-party maintenance provider, alongside GTCR.
- Represented Audax Group in its acquisition of a management services organization providing services to health care practices.
- Represented H.I.G. Capital in its take-private acquisition of SMTC (NASDAQ:SMTX), a Canada-based provider of electronics manufacturing services.
- Represented The Carlyle Group and its portfolio company in the acquisition of a U.S.-based manufacturer of generic pharmaceuticals.
- Represented Charlesbank Capital Partners portfolio company World Insurance Associates in its acquisition of Pensionmark Financial Group, a leading retirement and financial planning registered investment advisor supporting more than $80 billion in assets across its network.
- Represented TPG Capital portfolio company Ellucian, a higher education software provider, in its sale to Blackstone and Vista Equity Partners.
- Represented Charlesbank Capital Partners in its acquisition of BOX Partners, the nation's largest wholesaler of packaging, shipping and industrial supplies.
