Kate Kaplan joined Ropes & Gray's D.C. office in 2023 and practices in the data, privacy & cybersecurity group. While studying at University of Chicago Law School, Kate participated in the global human rights clinic, working on matters related to international human rights law and international humanitarian law, and served as a research assistant to Professor Tom Ginsburg, concentrating on the operations and structures of international organizations. She also completed an internship with the Department of Justice in the Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section, where she supported litigation involving wire fraud and computer fraud. Prior to her legal career, she worked as an analyst for the Department of Defense.

  • Conducts diligence of key data, privacy, and information security issues in a variety of private equity transactions and assisted with privacy diligence on multiple multi-billion dollar deals.
  • Counsel a leading provider of privacy-safe patient audiences and AI-driven insights for the healthcare industry on regulatory inquiry.
  • Developed privacy notice for non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
