Robert Koehler is an associate in Ropes & Gray’s Chicago office and focuses on litigation and enforcement matters. He represents clients in civil litigation, as well as internal and government investigations. He works with a diverse array of clients, including private equity and venture capital firms, academic institutions, and public companies. Robert maintains an active pro bono practice representing clients in civil and criminal matters.
During law school, Rob externed for Judge Nicholas Garaufis of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York and served as an articles editor for the Columbia Journal of Gender and Law. He was also a co-investigator and supervisor on a multi-year nationwide study that tracked and analyzed state and local modifications of housing law implemented to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Prior to attending law school, Robert completed his Ph.D. in American Literature at New York University.

- Defended public technology company in AAA commercial arbitration related to earn-outs and other deal-related issues in the acquisition of a high technology manufacturer.
- Assisted global pharmaceutical company with internal investigation related to potential Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations.
- Conducted anticorruption and economic sanctions due diligence in connection with dozens of cross-border transactions in the telecommunications, online retail, food and beverage, and consumer lending industries.
- Represented pro bono client before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in a successful appeal that reversed the district court's decision regarding client's religious exercise claims.
