Ariel Leung is a UK and US dual-qualified associate in Ropes & Gray’s litigation and enforcement practice group in London.

Ariel focuses her practice on compliance with EU, UK and US sanctions and export controls, anti-bribery and anti-corruption laws, anti-money laundering laws and supply chain related issues. She acts for clients across various industries, with a particular focus on the healthcare and life sciences, financial services and consumer goods and retail sectors.

Ariel has supported clients in navigating the challenges arising from the evolving geopolitical landscape, and has advised extensively on EU, UK and US sanctions against Russia and other jurisdictions. She has also acted for clients in relation to investigations into allegations of fraud and corruption. She has further advised clients on trade compliance and healthcare regulatory due diligence in connection with portfolio company acquisitions.

Experience

  • Advised a global conglomerate on an internal sanctions investigation in relation to potential breaches of UK and EU export restrictions against Russia.*
  • Advised a multinational corporation in relation to an internal investigation into allegations of fraud, bribery and customs duty evasion in its India operation.*
  • Advised multinational consumer health companies on the application of the EU and UK's Russia sanctions restrictions on provision of services to their Russian subsidiaries, including on relevant license applications.*
  • Conducted due diligence on various potential target companies’ compliance with trade and sanctions matters on behalf of leading global private equity funds.*
  • Assisted a major US bank on the implementation of its global sanctions compliance program.*
  • Advised various global financial institutions on questions relating to EU and UK's financial sanctions against Russia.*
  • Assisted a company in the nuclear power industry on the submission of a voluntary disclosure to HMRC in relation to potential breach of export control requirements.*
