Debbie McElwaine is an associate in Ropes & Gray’s asset management group. She represents private fund sponsors and institutional investors in a wide range of matters, including fund formation, portfolio investments, and ongoing operational and governance issues.

Debbie represents asset managers both inside and outside the United States, including insurance companies, public pensions, biotech, universities, hospitals and charitable foundations, and she advises clients on a variety of matters including primary, secondary and co-investments across a variety of asset classes such as buyout, growth equity, venture capital and infrastructure. She also advises clients on their upper tier structuring, management company and general partner matters, including regulatory and compliance matters.

During law school, Debbie was a judicial intern for the Honorable Nathaniel Gorton of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, as well as executive editor of the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy. Her writing has been published by the American Arbitration Association.
