Amish Shah is counsel in Ropes & Gray’s global litigation & enforcement practice group. Drawing on his experience leading and responding to high-profile investigations for the White House, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and Congress, Amish advises organizations and senior executives facing the full spectrum of investigation and litigation matters, including:

  • Congressional investigations;
  • Executive Branch investigations, including by DOJ, SEC, and the Department of Education;
  • Sensitive internal investigations; and
  • Audit Committee and Special Committee investigations.

Amish also advises clients on matters involving political law, government ethics laws, compliance with federal records and classification requirements, and issues at the intersection of national security and regulatory enforcement. His clients span a range of industries, including life sciences, healthcare, financial services, private equity, and higher education.

Prior to rejoining Ropes & Gray, Amish served as senior associate counsel to President Biden. He represented the President and the White House in congressional oversight and sensitive investigations involving the President and White House officials. He also served as the White House’s primary oversight liaison to a number of regulatory agencies.

Before his role at the White House, Amish served as counsel in the SEC Division of Enforcement, where he led a multi-year global cryptocurrency investigation and insider trading investigations alongside FINRA and DOJ.

Earlier in his career, Amish served as deputy chief investigative counsel of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform—the principal investigative committee of the House of Representatives—where he focused on investigations of the private sector. He led numerous high-profile investigations, hearings, and reports involving the life sciences, healthcare, technology, financial services, and defense industries. He also advised Committee Chairs and leadership on the issuance of subpoenas, the rules involving Committee interviews and depositions, and strategic considerations for hearings involving company executives.

Amish began his legal career as an associate at Ropes & Gray and as a law clerk for the Honorable Matthew F. Leitman of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Experience

  • Represented a major pharmaceutical company and multiple private equity portfolio companies in inquiries by the U.S. Senate.
  • Represented a public research university in an investigation by the House Select Committee on China.
  • Prepared a university president for testimony before the House Education & Workforce Committee.
  • Represented a major consumer brand in a federal securities investigation, successfully obtaining a termination letter from the SEC.
  • Represented the Special Committee of a large private company in an investigation of sensitive personnel and technology matters.
  • Conducted internal investigations and regulatory reviews on behalf of hospital, university, and non-profit clients on a range of sensitive research issues.
  • Represented a large pediatric hospital in a complex contract dispute, obtaining dismissal of the plaintiff’s primary claim and securing a favorable resolution of the case.
  • Obtained complete dismissal with prejudice of putative nationwide consumer fraud class action brought against a leading medical device company.
