Dustin Schaefer joined Ropes & Gray's health care group in 2019. He provides regulatory, compliance, and transactional advice to a broad range of health care clients, including hospitals and health systems, physician practices and other provider organizations, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, insurers, and private equity firms investing in the health care and life sciences industries.
During law school, Dustin was a senior staff editor for the Georgetown University Law Center’s Food and Drug Law Journal. Prior to law school, Dustin worked on health care policy issues in Washington, D.C. as a health insurance regulator and at a national health care non-profit. He also maintains a pro bono practice, providing assistance to asylum-seekers.
Experience
- Advised strategic investors and private equity firms on regulatory considerations for health care and life sciences transactions including investments in physician practices, nurse staff agencies, contract research organizations, revenue cycle management companies, medical device companies and home health providers.
- Advised clients on various aspects of regulatory compliance, including reimbursement under federal health care programs, scope of practice, corporate practice of medicine, and fraud and abuse laws, such as the Stark Law, the Anti-Kickback Statute, and the False Claims Act.
- Assisted hospitals and health systems, and investors with mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and other transactions.
