Women Attorneys

Ropes & Gray has long been at the forefront of recruiting, retaining and advancing the careers of women in the law. Today, over 40 percent of our lawyers are women and that percentage continues to grow. Women hold significant leadership positions in the firm, serving as department heads, practice group leaders and policy committee members.

Women’s Forum

Ropes & Gray’s commitment to its female lawyers goes well beyond the statistics. In addition to an active diversity committee, which addresses policy issues, the firm offers educational, professional development and networking opportunities through its Women’s Forum. Established in 1996, the Women’s Forum fosters professional growth through programs that give female lawyers access to firm and industry leaders and other experts.

The Women’s Forum hosts events at which clients and guest speakers are invited to address topics such as networking, marketing, mentoring, leadership training, and business development.  The Women’s Forum organizes formal and informal social events to provide women lawyers with the opportunity to build relationships and develop the essential skills for a successful legal career.

The Women’s Forum also promotes business and professional development opportunities through the “We’re the Future” grant program.  Through this grant, the women’s forum encourages our women attorneys to cultivate their entrepreneurial spirit and seek out initiatives that will help achieve professional goals.

The Chambers USA Women in Law Awards has honored Ropes & Gray for having the industry’s “Best Mentoring Program,” noting that, “{Ropes & Gray’s} mentoring circles allow female attorneys to share experience across all levels, departments and locations and offer regular networking sessions.” Since 2010, the firm has consistently been recognized as one of the top 5 firms for diversity for women by the Vault survey of the 150 most prestigious law firms in the country.
