Attorneys:

In an Asia Business Law Journal feature article on women, business and law, life sciences regulatory partner Katherine Wang (Shanghai) shares her personal story of successes, challenges and strategies employed throughout her career.

Katherine said she hears from China law firm peers that female attorneys are not always well respected by clients who are from more traditional industry sectors or regions. “I think the cause for unequal treatment is deeply rooted in the culture. Asian culture projects women as caregivers, and expects women to spend more time at home, driving the success of their spouses or children, rather than their own,” said Katherine.

She notes that the highest point of her career thus far is being shortlisted as one of the 10 finalists for Legal Innovator of the Year by the Financial Times, in 2018. This is a recognition of her longstanding commitment to developing a life sciences regulatory & compliance practice in China.
