Practices: Mergers & Acquisitions, Health Care, Life Sciences, Technology, Media & Telecommunications

On Monday, April 3, Paul Scrivano, partner and global head of M&A, was interviewed on Bloomberg Markets’ Deals Report. Broadcast live from Bloomberg’s New York headquarters, Mr. Scrivano discussed deal activity in the semiconductor and health care industries, and the outlook for this in 2017. Mr. Scrivano also provided insights on the current climate for deal-making amid political uncertainty. “With this uncertainty … there are opportunities for savvy acquirers who can pragmatically weigh risk to do deals,” outlined Mr. Scrivano to Deals Report host Jeffrey McCracken, Bloomberg’s Executive Editor of Global Deals.

Subsequently, an article published by Bloomberg BNA’s Corporate Law & Accountability Report on April 4 discussed how large pharmaceutical companies are turning to dealmaking as they look to build out their drug pipelines, featuring quotes from Mr. Scrivano’s broadcast interview. “There are few industries that have been as reshaped by M&A as big pharma has—to an extent, M&A has displaced R&D,” stated Mr. Scrivano. "Many times, just from an economic standpoint, it is cheaper to actually buy a biotech company with a new drug than to spend the time creating it."

Mr. Scrivano recently joined Ropes & Gray’s mergers & acquisitions practice, maintaining offices in San Francisco, Silicon Valley and New York. As one of the country’s elite M&A legal practitioners, he has advised on more than 100 public company M&A transactions, and his extensive experience includes mergers, tender and exchange offers, stock and asset acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures.
