Privacy & Cybersecurity Partner Weighs in on SEC Breach in Wall Street Journal Articles

Practices: Privacy & Cybersecurity

In two recent articles published by The Wall Street Journal, Heather Sussman, partner and co-head of Ropes & Gray’s privacy & cybersecurity practice, discusses the SEC’s disclosure of a 2016 hack into its Edgar filing system. The disclosure has opened a discussion among experts about the vulnerability of this database, which contains filings made by thousands of public companies, money managers and brokerage firms, and the implications the breach may have for companies whose nonpublic information may have been accessed.

Ms. Sussman notes in the articles that “the federal government is facing the same security challenges that corporations are facing in an environment where they are trying to compete for scarce security talent on a Federal government budget.”
