A March 10 article published by Law.com International titled “Ropes & Gray Appoints New Hong Kong Head, Goes 'All In for Life Sciences'” discussed the appointment of asset management partner Vincent Ip to Hong Kong office managing partner and the firm’s pan-Asia focus.

The story outlined that in Asia, Ropes & Gray’s regional offering focuses on life sciences, asset management and private equity from the firm’s Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo and Shanghai offices.

“A very healthy majority of our client relationships are global and institutional in nature,” Arthur Mok, Ropes & Gray’s Asia managing partner said in the piece. “A number of the client relationships that are based in Asia originated from sponsor clients that may have had these companies as portfolio companies and we have the unique opportunity to become company counsel as a result of that.”

“One of the things we sell to our global institutional clients is to be able to serve them and in the three regions that are most important to them, North America, Europe, and Asia,” David Djaha Ropes & Gray managing partner highlighted in the piece.

Ropes & Gray is consistently recognized as one of the top international firms in the region, and is regularly ranked in Mergermarket’s league table for PE buyouts in Asia. The firm’s accomplishments include having led several of the largest PE deals in Japan history. In Korea, Ropes & Gray provides a leading platform for global private equity funds doing business there. In China, Ropes & Gray advises eight of the top ten largest life sciences sector companies in matters around the globe. The firm’s Asia asset management practice, which Vince leads from Hong Kong, is unparalleled in its depth and expertise.

Vince’s appointment to Hong Kong managing partner is effective April 1 and the announcement can be viewed here.
