Before retiring in 2025, Jim Batchelder was a partner and senior trial lawyer in Ropes & Gray’s intellectual property litigation group. He was recognized by Chambers and named one of the world’s Leading Patent Practitioners, one of the Best Lawyers In America, and one of California’s Top Intellectual Property Lawyers. He spent more than 35 years litigating high-stakes intellectual property cases in district courts and the ITC, and was named a PTAB “Legal Lion” by Law360.

Jim held numerous leadership roles at Ropes & Gray, including as managing partner of the firm’s Silicon Valley and San Francisco offices, and as a 10-year member of the firm’s governing policy committee.
