Data, privacy & cybersecurity partners and co-chairs Edward McNicholas and Rohan Massey, data, privacy & cybersecurity partner Fran Faircloth and life sciences regulatory & compliance partner Katherine Wang will present at the virtual Privacy & Security Forum Spring Academy March 23 – 25.
On March 24 Edward and Katherine will present on the “Key Data Laws of Asia” panel. The panel will examine how the Personal Information Protection Law and the Chinese data security and cybersecurity laws pose considerable challenges to global enterprises. The Chinese laws are designed to support China’s sovereignty over its data ecosystem.
Fran will present on the “World Wide Web Versus the Splinternet” panel on March 24. The panel will address how international organizations manage varying cross border data transfer restrictions in jurisdictions such as China, Brazil and India while maintaining a global presence.
Rohan will moderate the “International Transfers in 2022 and Beyond” panel on March 25. Recent enforcement actions and statements by data protection authorities in the in the EU have highlighted the challenges organizations face in complying with the increasingly stringent assessments and analysis required to facilitate lawful international transfers. The panelists will discuss the issue of data transfers highlighted by recent cases, the challenges organizations face in trying to remain compliant and consider if the time is right for a radical re-thinking of how we scope and regulate international data transfers in an increasingly digital society.
