Event
November 2, 2025

Ropes & Gray attorneys will present sessions at the 2025 International Bar Association (IBA) Annual Conference in Toronto November 2 to 7. The conference brings together legal professionals and industry experts from around the world to discuss global legal developments, cross-border transactions, dispute resolution, and professional ethics, providing a comprehensive platform for networking and knowledge sharing among practitioners and thought leaders.

Attorneys participating in the conference include:

Litigation & enforcement partner Ruchit Patel will speak on the panel titled “Mergers: practical issues in international M&A deals.” The panel will discuss practical issues including devising a multi-jurisdictional merger filing strategy, conditions precedent, and how to deal with mergers below thresholds, how to allocate risk, timelines, and gun-jumping rules.

Bob Rivollier, private equity partner, will speak on the “Clients, clarity, collaboration: the formula for high-impact revenue growth” session. The session will cover how firms that prioritize collaboration, client experience, and clarity of focus outperform their peers in both revenue and retention. It will explore why clients served across multiple practice areas are not only more profitable but also more loyal, and how internal collaboration can unlock hidden value within existing relationships.

M&A partner Sarah Young will moderate the panel titled “Locking up the deal – perspectives and practices from around the world.” The panelists will explore the extent to which buyers can lock-up a transaction in various geographies, and the obligations and limitations on a target board as fiduciaries under applicable law.
