Health care and higher education counsel Minal Caron presented at the World Conference on Research Integrity 2026 on May 4 in Vancouver, Canada.
Minal presented a session titled “Navigating Authorship Disputes and ‘Idea Plagiarism’: Challenges and Proactive Strategies to Promote Constructive Collaboration” with Lisa Rasmusen, professor and graduate program director at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Department of Philosophy and Editor-in-Chief of Accountability in Research.
Research institutions are increasingly in the position of adjudicating complex disputes involving questions about the definition of plagiarism that cannot be answered by looking to the limited guidance made available by government agencies, journals, and other sources. The presentation discussed these challenges and offered proactive strategies to reduce risk of disputes and promote positive and open conversations about research credit and authorship.
