Ropes & Gray Attorneys Advise GNC in Class Action Settlement

Ropes & Gray represented General Nutrition Centers Inc. in a class action suit in which plaintiffs alleged that the company violated California competition and consumer protection laws by selling products containing anabolic steroids without requiring prescriptions. The parties reached a court-approved $1.5 million settlement on August 19. The case is In re: Steroid Hormone Products Cases in the Superior Court for the State of California, County of Los Angeles.

In a Law360 article on the matter, Tsai noted that GNC never manufactured any of the products at issue and denied that its actions violated California law. Judge Jane L.
