Ropes & Gray advised Novanta Inc. (NASDAQ: NOVT), a global leader and supplier of photonics, precision motion and vision technologies to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the medical and advanced industrial markets, in its definitive agreement to purchase ThingMagic, a division of Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB).
Founded by five MIT alumni, ThingMagic is a provider of Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) Reader Modules and Finished RFID Solutions to original OEMs in the medical and advanced industrial markets. The company is based in Woburn, Mass.
The transaction, which was announced on Jan. 5, is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2017.
