Intellectual property transactions partner and leader of the firm’s privacy and data security practice in Europe Rohan Massey (London) authored an August 3 article published by Law360 examining the impact of a United Kingdom Data Protection Authority fine as a future warning for implementation of the European Union’s (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Mr. Massey explains that the monetary penalty imposed against the Boomerang Video game rental firm for failing to take steps to protect its website from attack, is a warning that once the GDPR is implemented in 2018 all organizations that process personal data of EU citizens, regardless of location, will need to review the security of their business practices.
