Ropes & Gray’s West Coast attorneys and staff filled backpacks with back-to-school supplies this summer for youth experiencing homelessness, children in the foster care system, and others in need ahead of the school year.
The firm’s San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Los Angeles offices donated backpacks filled with notebooks, folders, pencils, tape and other classroom essentials. The San Francisco office partnered with Hamilton Families, Silicon Valley worked with Kinship, Adoptive, & Foster Parent Association, and Los Angeles provided the packs to the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Homeless Education Office.
Summer associates organized ice cream socials, snack bars, and breakfast get-togethers to raise funds for the effort and bring together volunteers to stuff backpacks. In total, the California offices donated 100 backpacks to the organizations.
Ropes & Gray’s Backpack Project was launched in 1999. Program volunteers raise funds, shop for supplies, stock the backpacks and deliver them to local shelters, organizations and schools.
The firm’s Chicago office recently organized a Backpack Project event to benefit Cradles to Crayons, and the Boston office donated backpacks to the Sydney Paige Foundation.
