Managing risk is no simple feat. In a chapter for Latin Lawyer entitled “Building Effective Internal Communication Channels,” authors litigation & enforcement partner Maria Calvet, and associates Krystal Vazquez, Baldemar Gonzalez, Casandra Ferrante, and Christopher Majercin delve into the complexities that accompany corporate risk management in an evolving regulatory landscape.

U.S. regulators continue to unveil a “cascade of policy announcements surrounding anti-corruption efforts,” said the authors. “The tone from the very top, from the highest levels of the US government itself, is reverberating with a resounding call for collaboration and cooperation to achieve its commitment to combat corporate crime.”

One key element of corporate governance is a well-designed and well-implemented compliance program. The authors note that such a program often requires delegating compliance oversight and enforcement to a dedicated function; instituting and enforcing compliance policies, procedures, and practices; operating a robust confidential reporting mechanism; collecting and analyzing compliance metrics; and establishing training initiatives that are tailored and adapted to local laws and customs.
