Managing risk is no simple feat. In a chapter for Latin Lawyer entitled “Building Effective Internal Communication Channels,” authors litigation & enforcement partner Maria Calvet and associate Casandra Ferrante delve into the complexities that accompany corporate risk management in an evolving regulatory landscape.

U.S. regulators continue to unveil a “cascade of policy announcements surrounding anti-corruption efforts,” said the authors. “The tone from the very top, from the highest levels of the US government itself, is reverberating with a resounding call for collaboration and cooperation to achieve its commitment to combat corporate crime.”

One key element of corporate governance is a well-designed and well-implemented compliance program. The authors note that such a program often requires delegating compliance oversight and enforcement to a dedicated function; instituting and enforcing compliance policies, procedures, and practices; operating a robust confidential reporting mechanism; collecting and analyzing compliance metrics; and establishing training initiatives that are tailored and adapted to local laws and customs.
