Ropes & Gray has advised GCM Grosvenor on its strategic partnership with pan-European residential real estate investment firm Matter Real Estate, alongside Madison International Realty, a leading real estate private equity firm.
As part of the partnership, funds managed by GCM Grosvenor and Madison have acquired minority stakes in Matter from an existing investor. These strategic investments mark a significant milestone for Matter, enhancing its capabilities and deepening its access to a broader pool of global investors.
GCM Grosvenor’s investment reflects a deepening of its long-standing relationship with Matter, having previously invested in several of the firm’s European residential platforms. This next phase of collaboration builds on a strong foundation of shared success and continued alignment, reinforcing GCM Grosvenor’s confidence in Matter and its commitment to expanding its access to high-quality European residential opportunities.
Ropes & Gray previously advised GCM Grosvenor on platform investments with Matter in Germany and Denmark, as well as on its recapitalisation of Placefirst, a Matter platform company and leading developer of attainable housing in the UK.
The Ropes & Gray team on these transactions was led from London by asset management partner Tom Alabaster with support from associates Craig Jourdan and Andrew Davis; and tax partner Andrew Howard and tax associate Luiza Galbraith.
