A Report on Research Compliance article highlights a Ropes & Gray alert on increased scrutiny of foreign influence in colleges and universities under Section 117 of the Higher Education Act.

Section 117 requires colleges and universities to disclose foreign gifts and contracts valued at $250,000 or more from a single foreign source in a calendar year.

The alert on the U.S. Department of Education partnering with the U.S. State Department on Section 117 foreign gift and contract reporting was authored by health care partner Mark Barnes, data, privacy & cybersecurity partner Robert Silvers and co-chair of the firm’s national security practice, health care counsel Steve Sencer and health care associate Christina Ravelo.
