Ropes & Gray represented Anaqua in the acquisition of Unified Patents, an international membership organization that seeks to deter abusive patent assertions in the Standard Essential Patent (SEP) and Non-Practicing Entity (NPE) technology areas. The transaction was announced on August 4. Financial terms were not disclosed.
By combining Anaqua's leading IP management platform with Unified Patents' experience in litigation prevention, the company is establishing a new approach that spans the entire innovation and IP lifecycle – from helping organizations commercialize innovation through the creation and management of its IP assets to proactively protecting innovation from abusive litigation and predatory licensing practices.
