Ropes & Gray advised Novo in an asset purchase agreement to acquire three novel obesity drug development programs initiated by Kallyope. The transaction was announced on September 18 and financial terms were not disclosed.
The programs target novel non-incretin approaches to obesity and include a potential first-in-class peptide program, a follow-on small molecule program directed to a novel target and another small molecule receptor agonist program in lead optimization. The lead peptide-based candidate, K-554, is ready to submit to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for an Investigational New Drug (IND) application.
These programs are an addition to Novo’s obesity pipeline, with the potential to offer a differentiated efficacy and tolerability profile, either as monotherapy or in combination with incretins that include GLP-1s.
