Ropes & Gray advised Blackstone Life Sciences in a $455 million collaboration with Boston Scientific Corporation to co-fund the development of the VITALYST system, a next-generation, miniature heart pump intended to increase cardiac output and improve blood flow from the heart to the brain and other vital organs. The transaction was announced on November 2.
The VITALYST system is being developed to address unmet needs of critically ill patients, with the goal of improving efficacy, safety and ease of use for the physicians treating them. This is the first time that Blackstone Life Sciences has co-funded the development of a Boston Scientific product.
The Ropes & Gray team was led by life sciences licensing partner Abby Gregor and associate James Gould and included life sciences licensing partner Melissa Rones, and life sciences counsel Ryan Murphey and Michael Spera.
