Ropes & Gray announced today that Yoonji Woo has joined the firm as a partner in the asset management group in New York. Yoonji is a highly regarded private funds lawyer advising venture and growth fund managers as well as large institutional sponsors.

"Venture and growth managers are raising larger, more complex funds, and they need an advisor who can bring the full strength of our global platform to every stage of their growth," said Julie Jones, chair of Ropes & Gray. "Yoonji has advised first-time venture managers and some of the largest institutional sponsors in the market. She understands the pressures these managers face and gives practical, commercial advice that helps them raise capital and grow with confidence.”

Yoonji advises sponsors across the full spectrum of private funds, from funds-of-one and separately managed accounts to multi-billion dollar funds. A native Korean speaker, she has also built a practice with Korea-based sponsors, which she will continue through the firm's Seoul office. She joins the firm from another international law firm where she was a partner.

“Yoonji’s experience with venture and growth clients will be invaluable as we continue to expand that part of our practice, and her relationship with Korean sponsors will further strengthen our Asian platform,” said Michael Doherty, co-head of Ropes & Gray's global asset management group.

"I was drawn to Ropes & Gray by the genuine warmth and respect with which partners regard each other, which clearly impacts the way that partners work together," said Yoonji Woo. "Ropes & Gray is a truly global platform that pairs a world class asset management practice with a deep venture and growth bench. That combination is rare, and I'm excited to bring the strength of the whole firm to our clients."

Yoonji received her J.D. from Columbia Law School and her B.A. from Yale University.
