Ropes & Gray has been ranked #1 on Law.com’s UK A-List 2023. It is the second year in a row that the firm has topped ranking, having also ranked first in the publication’s inaugural UK A-List in 2022.

The UK A-List is one of the legal industry’s most prestigious honours, not just because it is granted to just 20 firms annually, but because it recognises firms based on a combination of financial and cultural factors. The elite group of law firms that make the list excel in four areas: financial performance, pro bono work and racial and gender diversity.

Additionally, Ropes & Gray has been ranked #2 on Law.com’s US A-List 2023. This is the seventh year in a row that the firm has been listed in the top three of the ranking and the 13th year in a row being named to the US A-List.

Jane Rogers, London Managing Partner, said:

“2023 has been another very busy year for Ropes & Gray and our performance – as always – has very much been driven by the efforts of all our talented teams working together. As a firm, we’re absolutely committed to investing in our people as well as delivering for our clients, so we’re delighted that the firm’s performance has been reflected in our topping the UK A-List for a second year in a row.”

“While there is always more work to do, we are particularly proud of our accomplishments in gender diversity. We have a number of targeted initiatives to attract, develop and progress our female lawyers through to partnership and this has helped us achieve the most gender diverse equity partnership in the UK, with women making up 41% of partners in our London office, as well as having the highest gender diversity of any elite firm globally.

Of particular note, our London private equity and asset management female partnership is now 63% and 60% respectively. To our knowledge, this level of gender diversity in a law firm’s PE and asset management teams is unique in the City. But this is just part of a broader commitment to developing all of our talent, which we believe is crucial in delivering for our clients and for the commercial success of the firm.”
