Law360 named life sciences licensing partner Abby Gregor an “MVP” in the Life Sciences category. The recognition honors attorneys with a proven track record of achieving significant successes in high-stakes litigation, complex global matters, and record-breaking deals.
In a profile article, Law360 highlighted Abby’s representation of Bain Capital in the formation of a new company with five potential therapies licensed from Bristol-Myers Squibb to help fill unmet patient needs. The five immunology treatments were at different stages of development, each with their own financial terms and involved investments by various parties “It was like five deals rolled into one, and that's purely from the licensing side,” Abby said.
Abby negotiated deals with overlapping timelines. In one she advised Sanofi in its acquisition of Dren Bio immune system therapy, a deal that could be worth up to $1.9 billion. In the other, she represented Black Diamond Therapeutics in a licensing agreement conducted in Paris with French pharmaceutical company Servier, for a treatment designed to target certain alterations in solid tumors.
Abby reflected on her accomplishments, challenges and what motivates her in her career. She was especially proud to see an attorney she mentored secure a recent promotion to partner — and then to watch him be recognized by a client they had worked with. The client was so proud of the promotion, it was announced within their company, too. “We truly function as a team and this client sees that, recognized it and felt connected enough to this associate, now partner, that they made sure that the entire organization knew about this announcement,” said Abby.
