Retired partner Peter Ebb has won an Adams Pro Bono Publico Award from the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Standing Committee on Pro Bono Legal Services.
Peter was selected for his extraordinary leadership in helping to develop and expand The Habeas Project, which provides legal representation for detained immigrants across six New England states. In 2025 alone, Peter devoted more than 1,300 hours to pro bono work while training and mentoring dozens of Ropes & Gray lawyers. Peter's enthusiasm for the work has inspired many Ropes & Gray lawyers, paralegals, and support team members to volunteer. In addition to Peter's efforts, more than 170 Ropes & Gray attorneys and paralegals have performed over 7,230 hours of pro bono work for The Habeas Project. Peter's pro bono work in retirement follows a distinguished 30-year career, including 14 years leading Ropes & Gray's labor & employment practice.
Named for attorneys John Adams and John Quincy Adams, the Adams Awards honor Massachusetts lawyers, law students, law firms, and legal organizations that have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to providing pro bono services for the benefit of individuals of limited means.
