Jeremy Liabo, partner in Ropes & Gray’s derivatives and commodities practice, recently served as a guest lecturer for the course “Starting a Crypto FinTech: Legal Roadmap and Case Studies” offered at the Cornell Tech campus in New York City. The course is a joint offering by Cornell Law School and Cornell Tech as a part of the University’s JD, LLM and masters programs.  Jeremy’s lecture, titled “CFTC Regulation of Digital Assets; Where are we now? Where are we, likely, going?” considered what CFTC regulation of the digital asset commodity markets might mean for crypto ventures. The lecture explored the potential impact of the digital commodity regulatory framework recently proposed by Congress by looking to the application of existing commodities laws to markets and market participants that are currently subject to CFTC oversight.
