Private Equity News has shortlisted Ropes & Gray for “Banking and Finance Team of the Year.” The designation is one of 24 categories in which the publication will present an award of excellence to honor a firm with European operations for successfully providing private equity advisory services in 2010.

Ropes & Gray recently represented private investment firm TPG Capital in its proposed €1.2 billion purchase of Europe’s market leading hygienic disposable products manufacturer, Ontex N.V. from Candover Partners Limited, announced in mid-July. Goldman Sachs’ private equity unit joined TPG in the proposed acquisition of the company. Boston-based private equity partner Newcomb Stillwell lead the Ropes & Gray team on the transaction.

Earlier this year, Ropes & Gray represented UPCB Finance Limited (UPCB) in connection with its issuance of €500 million principal amount of 7⅝% senior secured notes due in January 2020. This was the second successful closing of a high-yield offering by the firm’s London office. The Ropes & Gray team was led by Jane Rogers, who recently relocated from Boston to London, and Rom Watson in Boston.

Ropes & Gray opened its London office in January 2010. The firm’s London-based partners and associates specialize in securities, high-yield debt, bank financing, M&A, bankruptcy and insolvency, and private funds.
