Ropes & Gray Represents Patent Owners in Most PTAB Petitions Filed in First Half of 2017

An August 1 article in Managing Intellectual Property cited Ropes & Gray as representing the most patent owners at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) in the first half of 2017. Ropes & Gray represented patent owners in 56 inter partes review proceedings (IPRs) in the first half of 2017, including Rovi and Godo Kaisha IP Bridge. Intellectual property litigation partner Mark Rowland (Silicon Valley) was cited as the top patent owner attorneys in the first half of 2017.

The first half of 2017 was a record for PTAB filings with 1033 petitions, surpassing the previous record of 954 petitions in the second half of 2015. The Comcast dispute with Rovi made Comcast and Rovi the top petitioner and patent owner, respectively, at the PTAB in the first half of 2017. Ropes & Gray represented patent owner Rovi in filing 44 petitions in the first half of 2017.
