In a Westlaw Today article, health care partner Christine Moundas and health care associates Gideon Palte and Carolyn Lye discussed changes the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology has proposed for the Health IT Certification Program and the rule promoting access to electronic health information.

The authors note that if finalized, these proposed changes would address the evolving landscape of health IT and continue to promote interoperability and improved access, exchange, and use of electronic health information. Developers of certified health IT will face additional burdens in meeting these newly proposed and complex certification requirements. In addition, the changes would require health care organizations to re-evaluate their information blocking actor classifications and information sharing practices.
